First Line Fridays – 16 March 2018

Happy Day Before St Patrick’s Day! One of the best days of the year because its my birthday! I’m happily celebrating the 15th anniversary of my 21st year 🙂 While my choice of book for First Line Friday’s doesn’t have an Irish theme, or even any green on the cover – I know that I’m as excited as a leprechaun who found his pot of gold to start reading it!

Special Agent John Kaiser stood at the window of the FBI’s “tactical room” in the River Bend Hotel and started at the lights of Natchez twinkling high over the dark tide of the Mississippi.

All i’m saying to myself right now as I jump into book 2 in Greg Iles trilogy is “How the heck have i never read you before?!” And I can safely say, if book 3 in the trilogy hadn’t been nominated for an Audie this year in a category that I was listening to, that I would have picked him up. But since reading friends of mine told me that I needed to read the previous two books in the trilogy in order to understand book 3 and i’m soo glad i did. Even though they are huge reads at 700+ pages (the first book) and 800+ pages (book two) and culminating with 28 hours for book three. Of course, then I can go back and read the early books in the Penn Cage series…so basically, I have lots of good reading ahead of me and I can’t wait!

First Line Fridays – 23 February 18

First Line Fridays is hosted by Hoarding Books

I can’t believe how quickly we are flying through February – I mean admittedly, it is a short month, but the fact that March is starting to appear on the horizon just blows my mind…I’m neck deck in listening to the various audiobooks for the Armchair Audies right now – so my First Line Friday comes from the book I started on my commute yesterday.

I lay on a psychiatrist’s couch, a couch I’d named Alexander Skarsgard the moment my gaze landed on its buttery curves and wide back, and wondering if I should tell Dr. Mayfield about the dead kid scurrying across her ceiling. Probably not.

First Line Fridays – 16 February 2018

First Line Fridays is hosted by Hoarding Books

It’s Valentine Day’s week for First Line Friday’s this week! I’m an avid romance reader, so this week it was more about deciding which of the various romances I have on the pile was going to be featured – so in true Dee fashion – I closed my eyes and did an enny-meanie-minie-mo to select and the winner was….

Maggie Sullivan sought refuge in the stairwell between the sixth and sevenths floors at the far west end of the hospital, the steps least traveled in interns and residents racing from floor to floor, from emergency to emergency.

“Man, I’m hot.” Dakota Savage tossed the paint roller back into the plan, then wrenched off her respirator and goggles with a sign of relief.

From:
Silver-Tongued Devil – Rosalind James

I’ve been a Rosalind James fan since I read her first romance, Just This Once in 2012 (wow, looking back I can’t believe its been that long now). Anyways, I used to devour her books as soon as I got my hot little mitts on them – yet, somehow, I either missed this book when I was released (although I found it in my kindle archives) or I decided to save it for the rainy day that never came. So I not only have the first book in her new series to look forward to, but also the second one that came out mid-2017. (insert happy dance gif here!)

now its time to go and curl up and get to reading (especially since it is ridiculously cold outside in Ohio right now)

Lynn Masters stood with sore feet and the beginnings of a knot in her back, looking over the patient board and saw with more than a bit of satisfaction that it was just about clear.

From:
Chasing a Chance – Drea Stein

I’ve had Chasing a Chance borrowed from Kindle Unlimited for several months now – I dived into Drea Stein’s series a few months ago and then (in true Dee fashion) got distracted with one of my many other books to read and forgot to come back to Chasing a Chance. So when I was flicking through potential books just hanging out all lonely on my kindle, I found this poor neglected book and tee’d it up to read over the weekend. There is something just fresh about Ms Stein’s writing that keeps me engaged – especially when I was going through a reading slump a few months ago. Here’s to another solid read from her!

John Doe would never understand human ways.

From:
Firefighter Sea Dragon – Zoe Chant

I will say for the most part, many of the authors I have discovered through Kindle Unlimited have been one and done kind of books (i.e. I read one book by the author and no desire to read anymore) – however, occasionally, I find an author that I want to read more of and Zoe Chant is one of those authors. I picked up the first book in this series after I saw it recommended on the now defunct Amazon Romance forums (sad face because I always got really good book recommendations from there). Since then I’ve been reading the books in the series on and off – I just finished up book 3 earlier today and immediately downloaded book 4 because I’m curious about who John Doe actually is. Plus the whole sea dragon shifter is just intriguing, since its something totally different. Here’s to more enjoyable reads by this author and I definately recommend if you like books featuring non-traditional shifters (for the most part) and a fairly relaxed writing style.

We had just started over the bridge, toward my party, when the famously cheerful “Don’t Jump” Ad clicked on.

From:
All Rights Reserved – Gregory Scott Katsoulis

I’ll admit that I’m a cover whore when it comes to picking books – and a bookcover that had a whole bunch of different words on it, all with various copyright and trademark nomenclature cause my eye. Reading the description (a society where you are charged for every word that you utter after your “Last Day”) made me even more intrigued by the premise. Although, honestly, somedays I think it would be interesting to live in a world when people were limited in what they could say. I know that I’ll be interested to see how the author develops the world and background but I can’t wait to read it.
