So this post is going to kind of serve as my summary post for not only the last couple days of Bout of Books, but also my overall summary post because in all honesty – I’ve barely done any reading in the last few days. Friday was my last day on my current contract – I start a new job tomorrow (Monday), as well as having Navy Reserve drill this weekend (which involves me leaving my house around 6am and not getting home until 6/7pm). Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do and serving my country – but it makes for some long weekends. That being said, I made good progress on several of my audiobooks that I was listening to; as well as starting and deciding to not continue another book that I started (it just wasn’t holding my attention, even though its an author that I do enjoy).

Angel’s Flight – listened to just over an hour, before deciding that I wasn’t feeling it.
I’ll admit that I wasn’t as successful in the reading reading portion of this Bout of Books, but holy shit, when I added up my audiobook listening that was a doozy! I mean, I listened to over a hour day in hours during the course of the week. I guess the ability to sit on my ipod at work and listen to a book while I was neck deep in assessment development helped me. I had a great time participating in Bout of Books (like always) and can’t wait until the next event!
If you participated in Bout of Books, how successful were you?
Hours 21-24 Update
I read one of Dr Hashimi’s books a few months ago (she is a pediatrician that works in DC), and so when I was looking at the list of authors who would be attending the National Book Festival in DC and saw her name on the list – I thought it was a good opportunity to read another of hers. Set in Afghanistan, A House Without Windows is a book with the main thrust of the story is the criminal case surrounding an Afghani woman accused of killing her husband and the Afghani born, US trained lawyer who is hired to defend her. Before the beginning of the readathon, I’d read about 100 pages of it, so I was hoping to be able to finish it – but realized quickly that it wasn’t going to be a book that I could easily binge read – it was one that was better read in segments throughout the day (in fact, I just had just finished reading a part of it when I took my unanticipated nap this afternoon). I’ll be posting a review later on, but I can safely say, this was a 4 star read for me and one of my favorite of the read-a-thon.
