Hours 11-12
This last two hour period, brought dinner time (yay Pizza!) as well as me attempting to try and convince the dog that he didn’t need to eat what was left of my pizza…and if you’ve ever tried to convince a german shepherd why he doesn’t need to do something…they are only partially less stubborn that teenagers…
I finished up reading The Sweetness of Honey (Alison Kent) which is book 3 in a series in books i’ve been reading via Kindle Unlimited – small town contemporary romance – three of the main charaters in a series are 2 brothers and a sister. I have the 4th book on my kindle waiting to be read – hopefully, i’ll get a chance to pick it up during the read-a-thon. I also started reading another book by a new to me author, Stephanie St. Klaire – a romantic suspense called Rescued – I’m kind of ambivalent right now on what I think…its ok but nothing that is blowing my mind. I’m alternating Rescued with Malicious Intent which is a mystery/crime thriller set in Australia. This is a book that has been on Mt TBR for several years, so i’m glad i’m finally reading it.
Mid-Event Survey:
How many books have you read so far? I’ve finished 3 books so far – one I was about halfway through when I started, and the other two were from the beginning (or very near to the beginning).
What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? I’m not sure yet – maybe The Curse of Tenth Grave – Darynda Jones – I had this reserved at the library for a while and it just came in.
Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? Most of my interruptions have been from the fur-baby realm…because you know, puppy mom’s can’t just lay in bed and read without giving puppy scratches (or sharing food!). I’ve gotten quite good about reading my kindle with one hand to make sure that netierh of the dogs feel too neglected
What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? How tired I ended up being this afternoon while I was reading – normally I can read for hours on end, but today – as I was reading, all I wanted to do was take a nap (and I did!)
Coming Up:
My goal for this next 2 hour period is to finish up Rescued and continue to read Malicious Intent and A House without Windows – but it is starting to get late in the evening and even with my nap i took this afternoon, I may need to switch to more of a comfort read genre or something hot/spicy to keep me awake 😉
I also took a brief break about 30minutes or so ago, to watch my friend Rachel cross the finish line at IM North Carolina! Its been a rough week for her because after training for 6 months, they annouced that the course was going to be shortened and changed; but like a trooper she stuck in. She finished the official course around 5:30 (and was all smiles as she hit the finisher’s chute for the run. But being the over-achiever that she is, she is going to go and jump on her bike trainer and ride the other 56 miles of the bike course that got shortened (yeah, she’s nuts!) – but I figured seeing her do this was a good reason to take a break!
Hours 3 and 4
I did read a chapter of
Hours 1 and 2
Funnily enough in my intro post I listed a bunch of the books I had in progress, and yet the first book that I picked up to read at 8am, wasn’t any of those books. It was a book that I had read a chapter or so of last night before I fell asleep and since it was in my comfort genre (historical romance) – I figured that it was a good way to kick off this read-a-thon. It was a quick read (even though it was 370-ish) pages because the author (Katy Madison – new to me) had a way of writing that just sucked me in.

One of the things I love about communities like Goodreads is how it can bring together people across the world over a simple topic, the love of books – (yes, I’m a dork and gushing…lol). I have made many friends over the years on that website, many of whom I have never met in person (and likely never will) and yet, I feel like I know them. Over the last few years, one of the groups I’m part of (
The premise is simple, a group member donates a book that they think other members would be interested in reading – normally maybe an ARC of a YA book soon to come, or a book not widely released in the US (since that is where the majority of our members are from) and the book then travels from member to member. At each stop, its read (well, duh) and members are encourages to write notes in the book, highlight passages that really struck home for them (shock, horror if you don’t like writing in books) and sign their name in the front cover and leave a quick note in the back about their overall opinion. Best of all, they each include a postcard from where they live, so when the person who originally donated the book gets it back, there is like a treasure trove of gifts.
