Description:
Wow! Some of the hottest romance authors have banded together to write a hockey romance anthology for charity about a whole team of hockey players who win The Cup and fall in love in some hot, sexy stories.

Review:
Ok – now that I’ve finished fanning my face – because wowsers, i’m pretty sure Hot on Ice, may have melting the ice that the Cajun Rage played on when they won the cup. Pardon me in advance because I may go slightly fan girl during the course of this review (I mean, because with all these awesome authors – who wouldn’t!!). I will prefer this review with admitting that I always find it hard to write reviews for anthologies (especially ones with 18 different contributions) – because who wants to read a review that could run to multiple pages long…so I’m just going to hit a few highlights – but all I can say – is go and buy this book now! you won’t regret it (and if you do…well…ummm, yeah I got nada).

I love seeking out anthologies with multiple authors like this because its rare that a) I either know all the authors or b) all the authors are new to me – so I frequently get exposure both to new stories by old favorites (yes, I’m looking at you Kimberly Kincaid, Avery Flynn and Robin Covington) and well as new authors to check out (everyone that isn’t the afore mentioned 3 favorites!). For me the success of this anthology was the basis of how all the stories were partly inter-related – focusing around a championship winning hockey team and then each author taking their unique storytelling abilities from there.

Please don’t ask me to pick my favorite story in the anthology because I CAN’T! I mean, all things being equal – I can see myself going back and re-reading all the books in the anthology again in the future. So do yourself a favor, run, don’t walk to your nearest favorite ebook retailer and buy Hot on Ice!

Release Day – Playing with the Drummer – Robin Covington

PWTD-500pxOk, I’ll admit to being a total fan girl of Robin Covington (who along with Avery Flynn and Kimberly Kincaid), host the Friday Man Wars on their Facebook pages (warning, most pictures are Not Safe for Work!). So when she was looking for people to help promo her new book, I totally jumped on the opportunity and while I haven’t read it yet, I can’t wait to (and i’m about to one-click it right now)…

Description:
Entertainment journalist Lita Matthews is on the verge of making it big. As in her-own-TV-show big. She just needs amazing inside scoop on the year’s hottest celebrity wedding. Instead, her big break is becoming a big nightmare—all thanks to rock star Rocky Cardano. Who apparently hasn’t gotten over what happened between them four years ago…

Rocky is pretty damn familiar with just how far Lita will go for a “scoop.” Hell, their unbelievably hot hook-up in Mexico years ago was the story of a lifetime. Rocky’s learned his lessons. He’ll do whatever it takes to keep her from the story—even if he has to seduce her to the point of distraction! But Lita has always had a way of getting under his skin. Only this time, he won’t be able to just walk away…

Excerpt:

They were still touching, from shoulders down to their thighs, bodies trading warmth in the slight chill of the night next to the lake. She was close enough to kiss, close enough for him to caress, and he bit back a groan when he recalled her curves. She was smooth muscle, silky skin, lush breasts that filled his palms with their delicious heavy weight. Rocky broke eye contact, taking the chicken-shit way out for a moment.

He should move, get up and walk around, but he wasn’t going to do it. The big, horny bastard who made poor decisions was super-powered by tequila shots. That guy was like the Hulk, except that poor schmo in the movie couldn’t fuck without losing control, and when you were green with anger-management issues— that was a big problem. But Lita loved it when he lost control, and he enjoyed it when she took everything he had and begged for more.

The silence between them wasn’t awkward, and it wasn’t empty. The drumbeat of what they were both contemplating was in time with the pounding of their hearts. His cock ached, strained against the fly of his jeans; his mouth salivated with the desire to taste her. Lita’s nipples were tight under the flimsy fabric of her tank top; they rose and fell like she’d been running. He was waiting for some sign that she was on board for them to both make a poor drunken decision.

“I’m really sorry about Mexico…after Mexico,” Lita whispered as she looked up at him again, her breath warm against his mouth. He licked his lips, disappointed that he couldn’t taste her there.

“Let’s not talk about it anymore.”

“Do you believe me?”

Rocky sighed slightly, cataloging the hope in her eyes that maybe they could put this behind them. He reached out a hand, allowing his fingers to trace the arc of her cheek, the side of her neck, dipping into the hollow of her throat and coming to rest on the curve of her breast.

The tension was strung taut between them, but through it all, he realized that he owed her an answer before this went any further.

“I’m just tired of fighting about it.”

She closed her eyes briefly, and he wasn’t sure if it was because of his words or the effect of his gentle stroke against her flesh.

“That’s not a great answer,” Lita said, opening her eyes again.

She studied his face, her eyes processing each assessment she made, every calculation of pros, cons, and the absolutely insane. Rocky expected her to pull away, to end this detour and frolic into madness. He needed her to do what he could not do. He wanted her under him, around him. Wanted her in every way he’d had her those three days in Mexico, wanted to refresh those living memories with warm flesh, wet kisses, and pleasure. But he wouldn’t lie to get it.

“It’s the best I can do,” he whispered.

“I know for a fact that isn’t true.”

“You’re right,” he said as he slid his other arm between them and around her waist. He tugged her upward, and the movement put her eye-to-eye, mouth-to-mouth with him. This was without a doubt the dumbest thing he’d ever done, drunk or sober, but it felt incredible. He’d dreamed about this, woken achy and hard from his subconscious fantasies that involved Lita, a hammock on the beach, and not a stitch of clothing in sight. “You are so goddam beautiful.”

She inhaled quickly, her breath catching before stuttering out. “You’re drunk.”

“Yep. Enough to tell you what I want.”

“And what do you want?” Her eyes told him she knew what his answer would be. Her expression dared him to say it out loud.

He ran a thumb over her lips, dipping in when she opened, a shiver racking him when her tongue swirled around the digit. “I want you.”

Lita shifted, swinging a leg over him until she straddled his waist. On instinct, he moved his hands, cupping her ass and touching the sweet heaven of bare skin where her tiny skirt had shifted up. She leaned over him, mouth within kissing distance, one hand wrapped around his neck and the other around a long hank of his hair.

“You don’t even like me.”

“I’m good at pretending.”

She smiled, her eyes dark, smoky, tinged with mischief and softened by the tequila buzz. “For how long?”

Rocky leaned closer, a gentle brush against her lips catching her laughter and then stopping it altogether with a deep, hot kiss. He sank into her mouth, using his tongue and his lips to coax her first moan of pleasure. He pulled back, making sure she saw how very serious he was.

“For as long as it takes to make you come.”

Blog Tour – Caught in the Crossfire

caught in the crossfireCaught in the Crossfire
Author: Juliann Rich

Review Copy Provided by Publisher via RABT

Description:
Two boys at Bible camp; one forbidden love.

That is the dilemma sixteen-year-old Jonathan Cooper faces when he goes away to Spirit Lake Bible Camp, an oasis for teen believers situated along Minnesota’s rugged north shore. He is expecting a summer of mosquito bites, bonfires with s’mores, and photography classes with Simon, his favorite counselor, who always helps Jonathan see his life in perfect focus.

What he isn’t expecting is Ian McGuire, a new camper who openly argues against phrases like pray the gay away. Ian is certain of many things, including what could happen between them if only Jonathan could surrender to his feelings. Jonathan, however, tosses in a storm of indecision between his belief in God and his inability to stay away from Ian. When a real storm hits and Ian is lost in it, Jonathan is forced to make a public decision that changes his life.

Review:
I’ll admit that I’ve enjoyed pretty much every book i’ve read that has been published by Bold Strokes Books, so when Caught in the Crossfire showed up on the blog tour list, I was intrigued by the description and knew that the publisher would give me a good read, so I opted in. One of thing that intrigued me about the book was how the author was going to handle the conflict between the LGBT coming of age theme and the religious setting (a teenage bible camp). I will admit that I was kind of ambivalent because often it turns into a demonization of either one or the other points of view – so seeing how the author handled the situation was going to be important to my overall enjoyment of the book.

But when I picked up my kindle and started reading, I was sucked it – it wasn’t a long book (less than 200pgs), which meant that it only took me a metro ride and a half (to/from work and then from again) to read it. There was something relatable about Jonathan and Ian and I don’t even fall into the LGBT demographic, but they were people that I think most teens or even adults could identify with, even if they aren’t going through the same struggles. I also found that the author did a good job of not demonizing the religious perspective, she tried to present a view that took into consideration both the positives and negatives of the current perceptions about how the church treats homosexual individuals – I liked the difference between the supportive and unsupportive camp counselors and how their interpretations of the bible differed. I could tell that the author had done her research into the various perspectives that are out there.

Overall, I gave Caught in the Crossfire (which looking back is a great title) 4 stars. The characters were relatable and the conflict in the story presented in a way that was fulfilling without being over-emotional (if that makes sense). I’d recommend it to people interested in YA GLBT titles, in particular, those who know individuals struggling with conflict as they explore the idea of self-identity. I can’t wait to read the next book when it comes out in September, to see what happens to Jonathan after he leaves bible camp.

Blog Tour – Hit & Run Bride

hit run bride
Hit & Run Bride
Nana Malone & Misty Evans

Dangerous Intersection Ahead

Marketing analyst Becca Daniels has a life that looks good on paper – a coveted promotion in an exciting new city and a successful, handsome fiancé. But with her Hawaiian honeymoon fast approaching, she has to face her biggest fear…water. She can’t swim. On her way to her first swimming lesson, however, she veers left instead of right and nearly runs over her hot, new instructor.

Caution: Rising Waters

Liam Caldwell has put his life on hold to look after his sick mother. The last thing he needs is the hit-and-run brunette who ruined his motorcycle disrupting the adult swim class. But from the first lesson, he realizes there’s more to the curvy, smart-mouthed Becca than meets the eye, and no matter what he does, he can’t resist her luscious lips and her driving determination.

No U-turn

With each lesson, Becca discovers that what looks good on paper isn’t making her happy. Should she play it safe in the shallow end with her career and fiancé? Or should she dive into deep waters with a man who offers passion and freedom like she’s never imagined?

About the Authors:
Nana Malone
Nana’s love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense she borrowed from her cousin. It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She’s been in love with kick butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.

Waiting for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, in the meantime Nana works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as sassy and kick butt as she thinks she is. Though, until that ninja job comes through, you’ll find her acting out scenes for hubby, baby and puppy while catching up on her favorite reality television shows in sunny San Diego.

Misty Evans
USA TODAY Bestselling Author Misty Evans has published over twenty novels and writes romantic suspense, urban fantasy, and paranormal romance. As a writing coach, she helps other authors bring their books – and their dreams of being published – to life.

Misty likes her coffee black, her conspiracy stories juicy, and her wicked characters dressed in couture. When not reading or writing, she enjoys music, movies, and hanging out with her husband, twin sons, and two spoiled puppies.

Excerpt:

Understanding slowly dawned on her face. “I’m floating? All on my own?”

He nodded, and she froze. Down went her ass, and up went her arms, windmilling like before. This time, however, he was prepared. He swooped in with one arm and snagged her waist to keep her from sinking.

A repeat of their past chest-to-chest mamba occurred, only this time, she didn’t beat him with her fists. “I’m never going to swim, am I?”

He made sure she was steady on her feet, then headed for the edge of the pool.

“Wait right there.”

He climbed out of the pool and grabbed a kickboard. On the way past the bench, he snagged her flippers. Back in the water, he lifted her up and sat her on the edge, then slipped the flippers on her feet.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Just hang with me.” After securing the flippers, he lifted her back into the water and demonstrated how to use the kickboard. He kicked back to her and handed her the board. “Your turn.”

Hesitantly, she fingered the board. “I don’t know about this.”

“I do.” He wrapped one hand around her arm and the other around her waist. “I’ve got you. Now do exactly what I did. Ready?”

She shook her head but held the board out in front of her. “Should I hum?”

“What?”

“Should I hum? You know, like when you taught me to blow bubbles.”

He laughed. “Whatever rocks your world, Becca.”

She smiled. “Are you making fun of me?”

“Never.” He positioned her in the water, kept her from sinking. “Now kick those legs, hard.”

With his help, she scooted across the pool from one side to the other. Her face morphed into that self-satisfied look she got every time she accomplished something.

She lowered her feet and nearly jumped up and down in the water. “I did it. I kinda, sorta swam!”

“Yep.” He enjoyed seeing that look on her face, and the bobbing up and down in the water wasn’t terrible either. “You did.”

“Oh, my God, thank you!” She threw her arms around his neck, bringing those luscious, wet curves into full body contact. Her flippers nailed his ankles as she tried to stand on his feet.

And then, without warning, she brushed his cheek with a kiss. “Thank you. I don’t know what to say.” She went to kiss him again, except he moved his face, and her lips,
thank you, Jesus, landed on his.

They were wet and warm, and oh, so soft. When she didn’t pull away, he lingered there, tasting, and hoping she didn’t knee him in the balls.

Her body relaxed into his, her lips parting on a sigh. “I…uh…”

Pull back. Huge breach of teacher-student relations. His hands were one thing, supporting her in the water, but there was no way he should have his lips anywhere on
her body.

But he didn’t push her away. No sir, Alex would have been proud. Liam wrapped his arms around Becca and kissed her again.

She responded, pressing her breasts against his chest. And then, like a light switch, she jerked away, putting distance between them. “What am I doing?” she said, rubbing her fingers over her lips.

“I’m sorry,” he said. “That was completely unprofessional, and it will never happen again.”

Seemingly tongue-tied, she sputtered. Cleared her throat, and tried again. “It’s not you. It’s uhm…I, uh…I got excited, and sometimes I do really stupid things when I’m
excited.”

Stupid things. Kissing him being one of them. Okay, then. Their time was nearly up. “One more time across?”

Swimming got in a person’s blood. He’d seen it a hundred times with the kids—and adults—he’d trained. Even the smallest taste of that kind of freedom made people long
for more.

“That would be awesome.” Becca grabbed the kickboard and avoided his eyes.

“I’m psyched.”

He was too. He only had to remember to keep his hands to himself.

Blog Tour – Love Comes Home – Andrew Grey

love comes home

Love Comes Home (Senses #3)
Andrew Grey

Review Copy Provided as part of Blog Tour

Review
A couple of weeks ago I was approached by a publicist asking me if I would be interested in participating in a blog tour for the release of Andrew Grey’s new book in his senses series, each one of which deals with an individual in the story, either a main character or a secondary one, who is dealing with the loss of a specific sense. After having had the pleasure of meeting Andrew at GayRomLit in New Mexico in 2012, I readily agreed. He was a hoot to hang out with and while I haven’t read a lot of his books, the ones that I have, I have enjoyed in different ways.

While Love Comes Home is book 3 in the senses series, it can easily be read without reading the previous books, which I did. There were a few characters from previous books who made appearances but it wasn’t detrimental to the understanding of the story. I will say that this felt less like a romance, and in some places more of a social commentary on the integration of blind children into society and learning to cope with being blind. I felt like the relationship between Greg and Tom took a backseat to the needs of Greg’s son who had gone blind. Which normally wouldn’t bug me, but if its a romance novel, I expect a bit more romance than I got.

But Andrew does have a way of taking out your heart and twisting it into millions of little pieces. I felt for Davey and Andrew’s ability to describe what Davey was going through as he was going blind sucked me in. I would actually really like to see a book written from Davey’s POV, maybe like a YA coming of age (although he was fairly young) – because from my experience, good portrayals of individuals dealing with disabilities is lacking within the current fiction realm. Although, I will say that I thought Tom was too pushy when it came to dealing with Davey, considering that he was essentially the interloper. It just felt too forced for me and like he needed to show that he had lots of money, which kind of made me dislike him a bit – I know that he was trying to be nice, but it just rubbed me the wrong way.

Overall I gave Love Comes Home 3.5 stars, but rounding down to 3 on Goodreads. It was a good read, but there were enough things in it to irk me that I felt 3.5 was a fair rating.

Release Day Facebook Party – Avery Flynn

So I was sitting on my couch this evening debating on what I wanted to write tonight – if you know me, you know that I have like a ton of books to review that I have read, but that my motivation/inspiration comes in fits and starts – and right now, its a non-starter (haha). But I wanted to post something (I mean, can’t let you guys think I’ve deserted you). Then I realized that I could write about the Facebook Party that is going on for Avery Flynn’s new release.

I don’t honestly know how long these Facebook release party’s have been around, I just participated in my first one a couple of weeks ago. Basic idea – a bunch of authors/fans get together on Facebook to celebrate the release of an authors new book. Normally it goes for a few hours and authors pop in and out, many of them have their own time period that they answer questions (and party). There are normally lots of giveaways (uhh, yeah, freebies – got to love them) and overall, general shenanigans.

high heeled wonderI didn’t think I’d heard of Avery Flynn before (although a perusal of my Goodreads Want to Read list proved me wrong…whoops), but I was intrigued by the description of the book and the cover is seriously hot. I mean someone with an obsession over high heels (yes, i’m a shoe addict and admit it), plus assassins – it sounds like its going to be an awesome book…(it showed up on my kindle this morning and I can’t wait to read it).

But a double bonus of these party’s because having a good excuse to procrastinate online, is finding awesome new authors from those that are participating. Right now, after today’s antics, my to-read list has increased substantially, to include new to me authors like Tracy Brogan; Jerrie Alexander and Kimberly Kincaid. There are many more awesome authors who participated and look for reviews of their books in the future. Plus I also got to hang out with Kelsey Browning again (who incidently was the first facebook party I attended) and who gave me some awesome ideas for upcoming blog items.

And on that note, its time to go back and party some more 😉 Have fun and happy Monday! Oh yeah and Avery Flynn is doing an awesome giveaway on her blog – including a $100 gift certificate to DSW shoes (and I NEED new shoes…well…that’s my story and i’m sticking to it). Click HERE to enter.

There’s an annulment waiting at the end of their rainbow… well, that’s if they can get through the next two weeks without consummating the marriage.

Thoughts:
So obviously this is a promo for a new book coming out which I haven’t gotten my hot little hands on yet – but the description intrigued me. I did however go and buy the first one in the series to see how it was and depending on how that plays out (since it is somewhere currently loitering in Mt TBR), I’ll probably try this one in the future.

Excerpt:

“Finish getting ready. We’re outta here in a few minutes.” He turned his back to her.

Jessina struggled to recover from the total body meltdown he’d so easily triggered. “Are we heading back to your apartment?”

“Yes,” he responded just as he disappeared from the doorway.

“Good.” She raised her voice. “You can drop me off at the bus stop then.”

Chase’s head swayed back in the doorway. “Come again?”

“I’m going home, but I’ll be back in time for Caplin’s arrival on Thursday.”

He stepped back into the room. “Why do you want to go home?”

The question caught her off guard. She’d assumed he’d be pleased to be rid of her. Nonetheless, telling him the truth wasn’t an option. “As you said, the only reason we needed to spend time together was so I could get to know you, so we can convince Caplin we’re married.”

His forehead wrinkled. “And you feel like you know me?”

“Well enough to pull off a bullshit marriage, yes.”

“Hmm.” He rubbed his chin, the intensity of his stare holding her captive. She clung to those dark eyes, waiting for him to say something. He dropped his hand and took a step toward her.

“I don’t want you to go.” His low, husky words resonated in her ears.

Her body hesitated, heart skipped, and nerves stammered. All of her senses failed her. She couldn’t have heard him right. “What?”

“There are a few more things you need to know about me in order to successfully pull this off, Jessina.”

Every single one of her senses came back to life as he moved closer.

“Will you stay just one more night?” He stopped in front of her. “So I can show them to you?”

“What?” Heat flushed through her body once more. “What sort of things?”

Dark, ravishing eyes dropped to her mouth as he drew a finger down the side of her cheek. It trailed along her neck, gently grazing her shoulder and caressing the length of her arm. “The sort of things I would do with my real wife.” He looked back up at her, his hand now settled on her hip. The weight of his touch caused her stomach to clench with desire. His hand shifted to the small of her back, and her next breath got caught in her throat. “I want to show you how my wife would make me feel when I’m this close to her.” He applied light pressure with his hand to her back, and the space between them descended. Their bodies became one.

“Chase…” His name fell from her lips in a near whisper when his hardness pressed into her tight-with-desire belly.

“Jessina…” he hissed back in a throaty murmur…
