TBR Tuesday – 26 May 2015

26 May

TBR TuesdayRuthless Heart
Author: Emma Lang

Purchased: July 6, 2010

Review: I’ve been a fan of Emma Lang for years – mostly with the writing under her other name (Beth Williamson) – so I was surprised to find this book loitering on the pile unread – I guess I bought it in a one-click haze and then forgot about it (yeah, I have a tendancy to do this). I will admit that I do prefer her Malloy family series to this book, but that I did enjoy this one more than several of her most recent books – so it was a fairly solid read by her. And I will admit that I am a sucker for a well-written historical western – they are for me, one of my favorite genres – unfortunately, it also seems to be a genre that has fallen out of favor over the last few years. Specifically, in this one, I liked how the prim and proper Eliza and the rough and tumble Grady came together – it was a great meshing of characters with enough suspense to make it enjoyable, without overwhelming the romance side of the house. I’m intrigued enough that I want to check out the other books in this series.

How did you guys do this week – did you find any gems on your TBR?

I’ve been a bad boy with the TBR pile – mainly because the last book I recieved from an author in early May was over 650 pages! So I was working on that one as well as my audiobook. Finally finished the big one yesterday on the train to a baseball game (naturally), so now maybe I can do this. Now, “officially” – does a book count as TBR when I have marked to-read for a few years, but didn’t get a copy until a month ago? It was too expensive at the book store and for e-readers (really, 11.99 for a book over 10 years old????) and every time I though of checking the library, it was checked out.

So, last month when the local library had it’s spring book sale, I volunteered to help a couple hours and as a “reward” I got to fill up a bag with books and lo and behold, there was a copy of this said book in the sports section! Naturally, I grabbed it. Been trying to catch up on author giveaways to me, and now that I have, I want to read this one. So, is this one “officially” a TBR book or not? If it’s up to me to make up the rules, I am counting it – but wanted to get input from the queen of attackiing the TBR! 🙂

hmm, i’m going to say no to being on the wishlist rather than the actual pile (only because that would increase my potential pile even more) 😉

Just what we DON’T need – to increase it even further. But since I am allowed to bend the rules, I will have this one ready for next Tuesday – and with hot and humid weather coming, meaning indoor reading with A/C, aiming for another one. That one requires no bending – had it since 2012.
